Mr Luke Spencer – Orthopaedic Surgeon
(MBBS, FRACS (Orth), FAOrthA)
Specialist in Sports Injuries, Knee & Shoulder Surgery
Luke is a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty interest in sports injuries and joint preservation. He completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2000 and was awarded the prestigious Clinical Committee Prize for outstanding performance in the Part 1 FRACS examination in 2006.

After completing specialist orthopaedic training in Melbourne (FRACS Orthopaedics, 2012),
Luke pursued advanced subspecialty fellowship training in Canada at the world-renowned
Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Centre in London, Ontario. There, he focused on
orthopaedic sports surgery, including ligament reconstruction, cartilage and meniscal
transplantation, patella stabilisation, shoulder tendon repair, and lower limb realignment
procedures.
Luke returned to Ballarat in 2014, where he further expanded his expertise through a local
fellowship in primary joint replacement (arthroplasty). He is committed to using the latest
evidence-based techniques to provide his patients with the best possible
outcomes—whether treating complex injuries or managing chronic joint conditions.
In addition to his clinical work, Luke has presented research at both national and
international conferences and has held academic positions as Senior Lecturer at Deakin
University and the University of Notre Dame. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian
College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association, and a member of the
Australian Knee Society and ISAKOS (International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery
and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine).
Luke’s patients value his clear communication, collaborative approach, and dedication to
restoring mobility and quality of life.
